Three-day annual city festival with a parade on Lake Malchin
Malchin is one of Mecklenburg's traditional small towns. With just under 7,000 inhabitants, it is the administrative seat of the Malchin am Kummerower See office and the cultural center of the region between Demmin and Waren. The city festival is considered the most important social event of the year – and one of the few city festivals in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern that still organizes an annual parade.
The highlight is traditionally the parade through the town center on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Associations, schools, fire brigades, and local businesses march through the city with decorated floats and walking groups. A jury will award prizes for the most beautiful floats around 3:30 p.m. The parade is not only a city festival classic but also a piece of living Mecklenburg association culture.
Pipe music characterizes the musical landscape: on Fridays, the Malchin Pipe Band plays, and on Saturdays, the Fire Brigade Pipe Band also performs. On the main stage, rock bands like »Emergency Exit« and party acts like »Foolproof« alternate with show dancing and local contributions. On Sundays, the festival concludes with a concert by the city choir »Viva la musica« in St. John's Church.
Those arriving from the north or south should take time for Mecklenburg Switzerland: rolling landscape, palace ensembles like Basedow and Burg Schlitz, Lake Kummerow as the second-largest lake in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with swimming opportunities and boat rentals. Malchin is located directly on the west bank and is an ideal starting point for day trips.
By train from Berlin (via Neustrelitz) or Rostock (via Demmin) to Malchin station. By car via the B104 / B194. The town center is within walking distance of the train station. Accommodation options are available in guesthouses on Lake Kummerow or in Demmin (20 kilometers away).
The Malchin City Festival 2026 runs from Friday, June 26, to Sunday, June 28, in the town center around St. John's Church and the central square. The town in the Mecklenburg Lake District is one of the few municipalities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern that still maintains a classic parade – the highlight on Saturday afternoon.
Live bands like »Emergency Exit« and party acts like »Foolproof« curate the musical program, complemented by pipe music from the Malchin Band and the Fire Brigade Pipe Band. On Sunday, the city choir »Viva la musica« will perform in St. John's Church.
Exact stage times and the full lineup will be published by the organizer before the festival on amt-malchin-am-kummerower-see.de.
