Town festival and market with Sunday shopping in the heart of the Dahner Felsenland
Dahn is the administrative seat of the Dahner Felsenland collective municipality and is known for the spectacular colorful sandstone rock formations around the town – including the castle ruins of Alt-Dahn, Grafen-Dahn, and Tanstein. The state-recognized climatic health resort has around 5,000 inhabitants and is considered the tourist center of the southwestern Palatinate rock landscape. Thus, the town is not only home to an active community but also an important hub for tourism in the Palatinate Forest and the North Vosges Biosphere Reserve.
The Krämermarkt – a form of itinerant trade market with vendors from the entire region – has a centuries-old tradition in Southern Germany. In Dahn, it is regularly combined with the town festival, transforming the town center into an unusual market mile for a day. Clothing, household goods, textiles, handicrafts, regional specialties, and much more are sold.
In parallel with the market, Dahn's retailers open their shops on Sunday. The town festival is therefore also an important pillar for local retail, which attracts thousands of visitors annually. The combination of market stalls, regular retail, and festival catering creates an attractive overall offering.
Stages, catering stands, children's play areas, and club stands are spread across the central squares of the town center – Marktplatz, Hauptstraße, Kurpark. Local music bands, dance groups, and cover bands provide entertainment throughout the day. The town administration, local clubs, and the business association work together on program design.
