54th Edition — “Mia bleiwen bunt, egal wie’d kummt”
The Rosenmontagszug Schwalbach-Griesborn is one of the most traditional carnival events in the Saarland district of Saarlouis. With the 54th edition in 2026, the history dates back to 1972 — founded by the IG Rosenmontagszug Schwalbach-Griesborn e.V., which is still the organizer today. The continuous tradition over more than half a century is an expression of an active club landscape and strong civic engagement.
The motto for the 2026 edition is programmatic and formulated in the Saarland dialect: “Mia bleiwen bunt, egal wie’d kummt” — freely translated as “We stay colorful, no matter what comes.” The organizers themselves describe the motto as an expression of “diversity, solidarity, joy of life, and community” in uncertain times. A clear political statement from the Saarland carnival movement.
The parade gathers at the assembly point Sprenger Straße and proceeds from there through Schwalbach towards Griesborn. The route is part of a well-rehearsed logistics system tested for decades. The L139 serves as an access road for the floats, and two approved exit routes regulate traffic afterward. Jahnstraße and Großwaldstraße are exclusively for pedestrian groups.
As with other Saarland carnival parades, floats, guards, fanfare groups, carnival clubs, and politically satirical groups march through the streets. The politically satirical floats comment on current topics with typical Saarland humor — sometimes harsh, sometimes affectionate, always pointed. Confetti, Gudzja (sweets), “Helau” shouts, and swaying together are all part of it.
The IG Rosenmontagszug (Interest Group) is a registered association that has organized the parade since 1972. It acts as a link between the various carnival clubs, coordinates logistics, handles security and permits, and is the institution providing continuity for the event. Registrations for groups wishing to participate are processed via the website ig-rosenmontagszug-schwalbach.de.
Schwalbach is a municipality in the district of Saarlouis, in western Saarland, with about 17,000 inhabitants. The district of Griesborn is the endpoint of the parade. The municipality was once a mining location and has reinvented itself after structural change — the strong club scene and carnival are expressions of this vibrant community life. The Maypole setting at the end of April is also part of the same club tradition.
The 54th edition of the Rosenmontagszug Schwalbach-Griesborn on February 16, 2026, sets a statement for diversity, solidarity, and community with the motto “Mia bleiwen bunt, egal wie’d kummt”. Gathering at the assembly point Sprenger Straße, parade through Schwalbach towards Griesborn. Registration for groups is open.
