The Alter Garten is centrally located in Schwerin's old town, about a 15-minute walk from the main train station. Arrive by regional express from Hamburg, Rostock, Berlin, and Lübeck. Parking garages in the city center.

Wine at Alter Garten

The Alter Garten is arguably Schwerin's most beautiful spot: it lies between the State Theatre, the State Museum, and Schwerin Castle. Once a year, in late summer, the Winzerfest transforms this historic square into an open wine market. For five days, wine lovers gather against the backdrop of the Neo-Renaissance castle, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2024.
