Advent Magic at a Historic Castle Ensemble

Burg Wissem in Troisdorf is a moated castle with over 700 years of history. Today, it houses the internationally renowned Picture Book Museum and is part of an extensive castle complex with a castle avenue, moats, and the stable. On the third Advent weekend, the entire area is transformed into a romantic Christmas market — a perfect backdrop for Advent cheer in the Rhein-Sieg district.

More Than 75 Stalls in a Historic Setting

The market is divided into three clearly separated areas: The castle courtyard with the main stall area, the castle avenue with more stalls and crackling fires, and the stable as a covered area. In total, there are over 60 decorated stalls outside plus 15 additional ones in the stable, traditionally organized by Kreativwerkstatt Troisdorf e.V. The focus is on high-quality handicrafts and regional art — jewelry, ceramics, wood and textile art, glass, and printmaking.

Romantic Atmosphere

Unlike many classic Christmas markets, the Romantic Christmas Market Burg Wissem deliberately focuses on atmosphere over mass: torches, fairy lights, decorative trees, and crackling fires create a subdued, fairytale-like atmosphere. Mulled wine, Feuerzangenbowle (mulled wine with rum), and hearty specialties complete the experience.

Family Program

For children, there is a historic carousel, a mini-train, and several planned visits from St. Nicholas on all three days. Live music from regional choirs and bands complements the program on a small stage in the castle courtyard.

Troisdorf in the Rhein-Sieg District

Troisdorf is conveniently located between Bonn and Cologne in the Rhein-Sieg district. With Burg Wissem, the town has one of the most atmospheric Advent locations in the entire region — the Christmas market is now a firm fixture for visitors from the greater Bonn/Cologne area and beyond.
