Rock im Wald Festival

An Institution of the Stoner Rock Scene

The Rock im Wald Festival has been held annually since 1995 at the Waldstadion of VFB Neuensee, a district of the municipality of Michelau in Upper Franconia in the Lichtenfels district, Bavaria. Over the years, the festival has become a firm date in the international Stoner, Heavy, and Psychedelic Rock calendar and enjoys cult status in the scene.

Musical Profile

The program includes Stoner Rock, Heavy Rock, Punk Rock, Metal, Sludge, and Psychedelic Rock. Headliners and genre greats such as Kylesa, My Sleeping Karma, Fu Manchu, Elder, 1000 Mods, Dozer, and Gluecifer shape the lineup, which is complemented by up-and-coming bands. With around two dozen acts over three days, the festival offers a dense program in a manageable size.

Festival Atmosphere

With approximately 1,500 expected visitors, Rock im Wald consciously remains small and family-friendly. Camping is an integral part, and the forest setting creates a special ambiance. The proximity between the audience and the bands, as well as the relaxed campfire mood, make up the festival's charm.
