Marksmen's and Folk Festival in Lichtenfels
The Lichtenfelser Schützen- und Volksfest is the big summer festival of the town of Lichtenfels, the "basket town" in Upper Franconia. For over ten days in July, the Festplatz in der Schützenstraße becomes the center of a festival that combines marksmen's customs with a classic folk festival. The organizer is the Königlich Privilegierte Scharfschützengesellschaft Lichtenfels.
Festival Tent, Beer Garden, and Amusement Rides
On the festival grounds, visitors can expect a large festival tent, a cozy beer garden, numerous amusement rides and showman's businesses, as well as a packed program of brass music, mood, and party bands. Gastronomically, a grill stand offers chicken, roast pork, sausages, and burgers, among other things.
Tradition and Program Highlights
The festival opens with the brewery and marksmen's parade and the beer tapping by the mayor, accompanied by an opening fireworks display. Other fixed components are the Grand Parade on Schützensonntag, Family Day with significantly reduced prices, a second fireworks display, and the final King Proclamation. The Lichtenfels folk king shooting competition also takes place concurrently.

Lichtenfels is the district town in the district of Lichtenfels, Bavaria, and is internationally known for its basket-weaving tradition. The Schützen- und Volksfest is one of the defining events of the Lichtenfels summer.
Lichtenfelser Schützenfest — edition 2026
The Lichtenfelser Schützen- und Volksfest 2026 will take place from Friday, July 10, to Sunday, July 19, 2026, on the fairground in Schützenstraße. The Royal Privileged Marksmen's Society Lichtenfels is organizing the ten-day festival.
Opening hours are from 4:00 PM on Friday (10.07.), from 11:00 AM (beer garden/food) and 2:00 PM (amusement rides) on Saturday, from 10:30 AM on Sundays, and from 2:00 PM on weekdays. The Lichtenfels folk king shooting competition (Volkskönigsschießen) will also be held; the award ceremony will take place on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the beer garden's pergola.

- Friday, July 10 — Festival start from 4:00 PM, brewery and marksmen's parade, beer tapping by the mayor, opening fireworks
- Weekend — Grand parade on Schützensonntag with clubs and bands to the fairground, official opening at the town hall
- Family Day — significantly reduced prices on amusement rides and stalls, children's program
- Saturday, July 18, 3:00 PM — Award ceremony for the folk king shooting competition in the beer garden pergola
- Festival End — second fireworks display and King Proclamation

Prices Lichtenfelser Schützenfest 2026
Admission to the festival grounds is free. On Family Day, significantly reduced prices apply to all amusement rides and food stalls. Otherwise, costs are incurred for rides, food, and drinks on site.

Getting there
The festival grounds are located at Schützenstraße 1, 96215 Lichtenfels. Parking is available at the festival grounds, in the Oberes Tor (P1) and Unteres Tor (P2) parking garages, and at a motorhome pitch (KorbCamp). Disabled parking spaces are available in Schützenstraße opposite the Schützenhaus.
