30 minutes of organ music with young talents in the Concert Church
"Das Kleine Orgelkonzert" is a concert series of short organ recitals in the Neubrandenburg Concert Church. In about 30 minutes, alternating organists — from students to young professional musicians — present works of organ literature on the concert organ. The series is aimed at anyone looking for a compact concert experience between lunch breaks, city strolls, or travel.
The Concert Organ of the Neubrandenburg Concert Church was completed in 2017 — making it one of the youngest large organ instruments in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The acoustics of the former Gothic St. Mary's Church (14th century), which has been used as a modern concert hall since 2001 according to designs by Finnish architect Pekka Salminen, predestine the venue for organ concerts.
The series explicitly sees itself as a platform for young talent — young organists are given the opportunity to present themselves to an audience on a high-quality concert instrument. Works from several centuries of organ literature, from Baroque to modern, are programmed.
The Neubrandenburg Concert Church is the central classical venue of the Four Gates City and also home to the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic. It is located in the heart of the historic old town, embedded in the medieval fortifications with its four city gates — Neuer Tor, Stargarder Tor, Treptower Tor, and Friedländer Tor.
The "Das Kleine Orgelkonzert" series kicks off in 2026 on March 26th and runs until October 9th. Spread across the summer months, alternating young organists will present half-hour programs on the concert organ of the Neubrandenburg Concert Church.
The concerts are aimed at anyone seeking a short and intense sonic experience — as a lunch break, as a prelude to a stroll through the old town with its historic houses and four city gates, or as a day trip destination from the surrounding region.
Young organists — from students to young professional musicians — present varied organ programs. A detailed schedule and artist list are available at konzertkirche-nb.de.
