Music for everyone, free and outdoors — summer kickoff in the Four-Tore-Stadt
The Fête de la Musique originally comes from France (initiated in 1982 by the French Ministry of Culture) and is celebrated every year on June 21 — the day of the summer solstice — in over 1,000 cities worldwide. In Germany, it began in Berlin in 1995 and has since spread nationwide.
Neubrandenburg has been one of the participating cities since 2025. 2026 will see the second edition — on Sunday, June 21, 2026. From 4 PM to 10 PM, streets, squares, and courtyards in the city center will transform into open stages where solo musicians, bands, orchestras, and DJs will perform — free of charge for both the artists and the audience.
The motto: "Music styles of all kinds." Theater, dance, and performance are equally welcome. The program and performance venues will be announced via the city's website (neubrandenburg.de/fete) and through the organizing group.
Four organizations coordinate the Fête in Neubrandenburg:
Neubrandenburg is the second-largest city in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and the administrative seat of the Mecklenburg Lake District. The city center with its four medieval city gates — Neues Tor, Stargarder Tor, Treptower Tor, and Friedländer Tor — and the rampart houses forms a unique setting for an open-air music festival. The Fête de la Musique is part of a growing summer program that brings together the city's community and its independent music scene.
On the longest day of 2026, the Fête de la Musique will take place in Neubrandenburg for the second time. For six hours — from 4 PM to 10 PM — musicians of all genres will fill the city center with open-air music. Admission and performance are free.
The format follows the worldwide Fête tradition: no central main stage, but many small performance venues simultaneously throughout the city — from the historic market square to courtyards and squares along the medieval ramparts. All music styles, as well as theater, dance, and performance, are permitted.
Stage and act schedule available at neubrandenburg.de/fete.
Admission is free everywhere. Food and drinks are available at catering locations and pop-up stands along the performance venues at individual prices.
Neubrandenburg main train station, then walk to the center. A20 (exit Neubrandenburg-Ost). Parts of the city center will be rerouted on June 21.
Completely free on all stages — this is the core principle of the worldwide Fête de la Musique.
From 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Sunday, June 21, 2026.
Bands and solo musicians can apply for a stage slot via the organizers and neubrandenburg.de/fete.
