Summery civic and family festival in the Klein Nizza of Würzburg's Ringpark — three days of live music with free admission
Klein Nizza is a small, south-facing hollow in the Würzburg Ringpark — the ring-shaped city park that has enclosed the city's former ramparts since the 1880s. The name "Klein Nizza" dates back to the era of burgeoning tourism in the late 19th century: the southern light, the winding paths, and the Mediterranean vegetation are reminiscent of the Riviera. It's hard to find a more beautiful open-air festival setting in the middle of a major South German city.
The Ringparkfest was launched in 1995 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Ringpark. Since then, the city of Würzburg has celebrated the park and its citizens every year on the first weekend of August. Since the 20th anniversary (2014), the festival has been extended to three days — Friday evening to Sunday evening.
The 2026 edition will take place from Friday, July 31, to Sunday, August 2, 2026. On several stages spread throughout Klein Nizza, acts from Chanson, Folk, Rock, Country, World Music, and Franconian Blasmusik will alternate. The musical program will be published in the weeks leading up to the festival on the city's website and via press releases.
Würzburg restaurateurs are responsible for the catering — with a mix of Franconian and Italian cuisine. Pasta next to Bratwurst, Tiramisu next to Lebkuchen, Franconian wine next to Aperol Spritz — a relaxed, cosmopolitan summer atmosphere in the middle of the park. Several stands offer snacks and ice cream.
The festival is explicitly designed as a family festival: a dedicated children's program with hands-on activities, small concerts, craft sessions, and games runs during the day. On Sunday mornings, guided walks through the Ringpark are also offered, explaining the history of the park, its plant diversity, and its function as the "lung" of Würzburg's city center.
Würzburg, the Franconian university and episcopal city, has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1981 with its baroque Residenz. The city combines historical heritage (Residenz, Marienberg Fortress, Old Main Bridge), cultural diversity (Mozart Festival, Africa Festival, Bach Days), and student vibrancy (Julius Maximilian University). The Ringparkfest is one of the most important city marketing events — one that celebrates the citizens themselves, rather than a commercial mega-festival.
Over the three festival days, thousands of Würzburg residents come to Klein Nizza — as picnic families, student groups, senior gatherings, tourists, or regular visitors from Würzburg's neighboring towns. The free admission, the Mediterranean park setting, and the musical crossover make the Ringparkfest a unique Franconian summer festival.
The Ringparkfest 2026 will be celebrated from Friday, July 31, to Sunday, August 2, 2026, in the Klein Nizza of Würzburg's Ringpark. The organizer is the City of Würzburg via its Department of Economic Affairs, Science, and Location Marketing.
According to the city, the 2026 musical program has already been finalized and will be published in the weeks leading up to the festival with all acts and performance times at wuerzburg.de/events-termine/ringparkfest. Bands and solo artists from the genres of Chanson, Folk, Rock, Country, World Music, and Franconian Blasmusik are expected — a deliberately broad programming that reaches a multi-generational audience.
Accompanying the music will be culinary stands offering Franconian and Italian cuisine, a dedicated children's program, and guided walks through the Ringpark on Sunday mornings with information on the park's history, plant diversity, and importance for Würzburg's city center.

Würzburg Main Station is reachable from Munich, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, and Würzburg-Bonn-Berlin by ICE high-speed train in 1-3 hours. From the main station, it's a 5-minute walk to the Ringpark. By car, take the A3 or A7, with parking available in the city center parking garages. City bus lines stop directly at the Ringpark.
Admission is free throughout the weekend. Food and drinks are available at the stands at usual festival prices.
Klein Nizza is suitable for picnics — bringing a blanket is allowed. Sun protection in summer and a light jacket for the evening are recommended. Guided Ringpark tours on Sunday mornings are usually possible without advance registration.
