Open Day for the Season Opening of Mainfranken Theater
The Theaterfest of the Mainfranken Theater is the festive opening of the new season and a popular open day in the Lower Franconian city of Würzburg in the state of Bavaria. The Mainfranken Theater is the largest theater in the region and a cultural center for all of Mainfranken.
On Theaterfest, the house opens all stages and foyers. A diverse program of drama, musical theater, dance, and concerts is offered. Visitors can take a look behind the scenes, experience ensemble members, and get in the mood for the upcoming season.
The highlight of the day is the evening presentation of the new productions by Intendant Georg Rootering in the Theaterfabrik Blaue Halle. Here, the program for the new season will be presented – a preview of premieres, concerts, and special formats.
The season includes numerous premieres in drama, musical theater, and dance, including world premieres, as well as symphony and chamber concerts and revivals. In musical theater, Ludwig van Beethoven's only opera, "Fidelio," is on the program, among others.
The Theaterfest combines cultural curiosity with a festive spirit of departure, making the Mainfranken Theater an open meeting point for theater lovers of all ages on this day.
To open the new season, the Mainfranken Theater Würzburg invites you to the Theaterfest on September 21, 2026, in the new theater building. On this open day, the house presents a diverse program on all stages and in the foyers. The highlight is the evening presentation of the new productions by Intendant Georg Rootering in the Theaterfabrik Blaue Halle. The season includes around 15 premieres in drama, musical theater, and dance, including world premieres, as well as six symphony concerts and six chamber concerts, and revivals like the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Beethoven's opera "Fidelio" is on the program.
Würzburg is easily accessible by long-distance train. The Mainfranken Theater and the Theaterfabrik Blaue Halle are located near the city center and are easily accessible by tram and on foot.
