About Rhöner Wurstmarkt

Once a year, the Marktstraße in Ostheim vor der Rhön becomes the region's largest gourmet mile: at the Rhöner Wurstmarkt, around 50 selected butchers and direct marketers from the Bavarian, Hessian, and Thuringian Rhön present their traditionally produced sausage and ham specialities – complemented by guests from Italy. Add to this Rhön beers, Franconian wines, BIONADE, live music, church fortress tours, and a Sunday with open shops. The market in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön attracts around 20,000 visitors to Ostheim, the "Bavarian town of enjoyment".

Enjoyment from the Rhön

The Rhöner Wurstmarkt is the major culinary gourmet fair in Ostheim vor der Rhön, located in the Rhön-Grabfeld district of Lower Franconia. On the high street of the small town, around 50 selected butchers and direct marketers from the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Rhön present their traditionally produced sausage and ham specialities – from the Bavarian, Hessian, and Thuringian Rhön, complemented by Italian guests. The event is organised by the municipal company Tourismus und Marketing Ostheim.

Three-State Corner of Sausage Culture

The Rhön region spans three federal states, and the Wurstmarkt showcases precisely this diversity: guaranteed regional quality production from local sources is the focus. In addition, there are Rhön beers, Franconian wines, and BIONADE, a beverage invented in the region. Ostheim holds the distinction of being a "Bavarian town of enjoyment" (Genussort Bayern), which recognises artisanal food production; the market is supported by the Slow Food Convivium Mainfranken-Hohenlohe.

More than just a Market

In addition to the sales and tasting stands, the Wurstmarkt offers live music, catering, children's activities, and guided tours of Ostheim's historic church fortress (Kirchenburg) – one of Germany's largest and best-preserved fortified churches. On Sunday, a Sunday with open shops complements the programme.

Ostheim vor der Rhön

Ostheim vor der Rhön is a climatic health resort in the Rhön-Grabfeld district in northern Bavaria, directly on the border with Thuringia and Hesse. Around 20,000 visitors from all over Germany come to the Wurstmarkt every year.
