«Brutally beautiful» — the brand philosophy

The Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum (MPS) is one of Germany's best-known medieval festival series. The «Retro-MPS» variant in Emkendorf harks back to the old Spectaculum tradition and consciously opts for a more artisanal, less stylized approach than the major MPS main events. That's precisely its appeal: at Gut Emkendorf, historical authenticity meets fantasy atmosphere — the Middle Ages in the best sense, not a theme park.

The backdrop: a Schleswig-Holstein manor house

Gut Emkendorf is one of Schleswig-Holstein's most important classicist manor houses — rebuilt in the early 19th century by architect C. F. Hansen for the Reventlow family. The extensive park, the old avenues, and the estate buildings form a backdrop that any medieval festival elsewhere would have to painstakingly reconstruct artificially.

What awaits you

• Approx. 60 market stalls — historical clothing, jewelry, leather goods, blacksmith work, glass, drinking horns, books, natural cosmetics
• Encampments — historical reenactment groups with tents, camp life, combat demonstrations
• Live music — Saor Patrol (Scottish folk warriors), Comes Vagantes, and other stars of the medieval music scene
• Falconry demonstrations — birds of prey shows, falconry workshops
• Acrobatics, fire-eating, fortune-telling — Spectaculum classics
• Gastronomy — around 60 food stalls from crêpes and currywurst to medieval-inspired cuisine
• Camping — 250 pitches directly at the estate, another 750 in Kleinvollstedt with shuttle service

Arrival and logistics

Parking directly at the estate is limited. The large parking area in Kleinvollstedt (2.5 km away, 3,300 spaces) is recommended. Free shuttle buses run continuously between Nortorf train station, Kleinvollstedt, and the estate.

In the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district

Emkendorf is located between Rendsburg and Nortorf, nestled in the rural Holstein Switzerland region. The Retro-MPS Emkendorf is one of about a dozen MPS Spectacula per year and the only event of the series in Schleswig-Holstein. It's a must-attend for medieval fans in the north.
