Large autumn market on a classicist estate in the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district
Gut Emkendorf is one of Schleswig-Holstein's most important cultural monuments: the classicist manor house from the late 18th century was an important intellectual center in northern Germany during the age of Goethe. Today, the estate serves as a cultural venue with high-quality events – concerts, markets, readings. The Holsteiner Herbstmarkt is one of the most popular formats of the year and has become a must-visit for autumn market enthusiasts between Hamburg and Flensburg.
What sets this market apart from many other autumn markets is its curation principle: COLUMNA Werbeflächen strictly selects exhibitors based on quality. The range of goods is accordingly high-quality: handmade art and crafts, clothing from small labels, jewelry from goldsmiths, unusual plants from regional nurseries, and delicacies from North German manufacturers. Tasteful gifts for the pre-Christmas season, not mass-produced goods.
A special feature of the market is the daily guided tours of the historic manor house. Two tours per day – traditionally at 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM – offer a glimpse into rooms that are not normally open to the public. The tours cost extra on top of the market admission and provide cultural-historical insights.
Emkendorf is located in the green hilly landscape of the Rendsburg-Eckernförde district, about halfway between Rendsburg and Kiel. The region around Westensee and the Eider spring area is one of the most scenic in Schleswig-Holstein and offers many opportunities for day-trippers from Kiel, Rendsburg, and Hamburg to combine their market visit with an exploration of nature.
Unlike many historic market locations, parking in Emkendorf is exemplary: 50 spaces directly at the riding stable and around 800 more on a paved meadow with asphalt access roads. Dogs on a leash are welcome. Card payment is not possible at the ticket office – please bring cash.
Gut Emkendorf confirms the Holsteiner Herbstmarkt 2026 for the three days of October 16-18, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM each day. As in previous years, over 150 carefully curated exhibitors will transform the outdoor areas and stable buildings of the historic estate into a market backdrop.
