The Kita as the Heart of the Village Community
In many villages in Rheinhessen, the local daycare center forms an important meeting point for young families and is also a central player in village life. The Eppelsheim Kita actively cultivates this role and, with its annual family festival at the barbecue area, organizes an event that extends far beyond the immediate Kita community: parents, grandparents, former Kita children, club members, and all interested villagers are welcome.
Program for Children and Families
The program is deliberately designed to be family-oriented. For the younger children, there are game stations, a bouncy castle, face painting, craft activities, and small competitions. The Kita groups perform songs, short plays, or dances that they have practiced during the Kita year. For the adults, it is a welcome opportunity to exchange ideas in a relaxed atmosphere, get to know other families, and appreciate the work of the Kita.
Catering and Socializing
The Kita parents and the municipal council take care of the culinary offerings with classic festival food: sausages and steaks from the grill (hence the name barbecue area), fries, salads, homemade cakes from the parent baking team, coffee, apple juice, and drinks. This mix of savory and sweet catering meets the wishes of all age groups.
The Eppelsheim Barbecue Area
The barbecue area on the outskirts of Eppelsheim is the typical Rheinhessen club meeting point: an asphalted or paved area with a permanently installed grill, seating under trees, a small club house, and enough space for temporary structures. In summer, the area is used for numerous club festivals, family celebrations, and village events; the Kita festival is one of the fixed dates in the annual calendar.
