Largest Schützenfest at Lappenbrink — Hessel Beats on Friday, Festival Parades and King's Shoot on July 10th to 13th, 2026
The Bürgerschützenfest Sassenberg is one of the most traditional Volksfeste in the Warendorf district — a central cultural highlight for the entire region between Münster and Warendorf. Organized by the Bürgerschützenverein Sassenberg e.V., which, with 2,229 members (as of January 1, 2026), is one of the largest shooting associations in Westphalia. The festival takes place every year on the second weekend of July — in 2026 from Friday, July 10th to Monday, July 13th.
New for the 2026 edition: "Hessel Beats" — a new revitalization of Friday evening. The shooting association itself describes the concept: "a new revitalization of Friday evening" that combines "tradition and modernity." Exactly what attracts young visitors: Live DJs, sound system, modern stage design within the traditional Schützenfest framework. The association is thus specifically expanding its audience to include the 18–35 generation.
Classic Schützenfest program: Assembly of the companies, festival parade, preparation for the King's Shoot, dance ball in the festival tent. The association's companies (Honor Guard, Fanfare Band, Young Shooters' Company, Ladies' Company) appear in full uniform.
Morning: Shooting Mass. Afternoon: Family program, children's carousel, catering in the festival tent. Evening: Dance music.
Highlight of the festival: the assembly at Lappenbrink in the morning, followed by the King's Shoot in the Brook — the association's traditional shooting range. Whoever shoots the last remaining piece of the bird will become the new Schützenkönig. Evening: King's proclamation, festival ball, coronation.
With 2,229 members, the Bürgerschützenverein Sassenberg is a true popular movement in the small town of about 14,000 inhabitants. Club life shapes the year:
Current (2025/26) Schützenkönig: Marcel Hülsmann, with Queen Katharina Wienker. The new King and Queen will be determined at the Schützenfest Monday in 2026 — the most important figures of the coming club year.
Sassenberg is located in the Warendorf district, in the southern Münsterland, at the transition to the Tecklenburger Land. With around 14,000 inhabitants and an active club culture, it is a typical Westphalian medium-sized town. Known for its water mill, historic town center, and the Schützenfest as its most important tradition.
The 2026 Schützenfest will take place on the traditional second weekend of July. The highlight is on Schützenfest Monday.
Free admission. Food and drinks available directly at the stands.

Schützenfest Monday (July 13th) is the program highlight — the assembly at Lappenbrink and the King's Shoot in the Brook are the central scenes. "Hessel Beats" on Friday attracts younger visitors — ideal for 18- to 35-year-olds from the Münsterland. Those who want to experience the traditional Schützenfest with a parade should come on Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
