Municipality of Baalborn, VG Enkenbach-Alsenborn.
The Kerwe Baalborn is the annual Kirchweih (church consecration festival) of the Palatinate village of Baalborn in the Verbandsgemeinde Enkenbach-Alsenborn, Kaiserslautern district. On September 20, 2026 (3rd Sunday in September), the main Kerwe day takes place; the festival weekend extends from Friday to Sunday in the classic Palatinate style.
Baalborn in the VG Enkenbach-Alsenborn
Baalborn is a small municipality north of Kaiserslautern, within the Verbandsgemeinde Enkenbach-Alsenborn. With only a few hundred inhabitants, Baalborn is one of the smaller communities in the district and maintains its own village identity through active club life.
Palatinate Kerwe Rhythm
The Baalborn Kerwe follows the classic Palatinate Kerwe rhythm: opening on Friday evening with keg tapping, a dance evening on Saturday with live music or a DJ, a 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) on Sunday morning with brass music, a Kerwe parade on Sunday afternoon, and the festival's conclusion in the evening.
Kerweborsch and Traditions
As in every Palatinate village, the Kerweborsch (Kerwe boys), Kerweparrer (Kerwe priest), and Kerwestrauß (Kerwe bouquet) shape the festival events. The humorous and satirical Kerwerede (Kerwe speech) on Sunday afternoon is the highlight of the Kerwe, addressing village events with Palatinate wit.
Festival Grounds and Club Life
The local clubs – the sports club, fire department, and others – provide the festival tent, bar, and catering. The menu features Palatinate classics: Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), Bratwurst (fried sausage), Leberknödel (liver dumplings), Schwenkbraten (grilled pork neck), and fries. Draft beer and Palatinate wine accompany the festival weekend.
Meeting Point of the Village Community
For the residents of Baalborn, the Kerwe is the social highlight of the year. Former residents return, families plan reunions, and the festival strengthens the community spirit of the small Palatinate village.
