Lower Bavarian Volksfest on the 2nd weekend of July — Langbräu Festival Tent at the Goldenen Steig
The Reisbacher Volksfest is one of Lower Bavaria's traditional summer Volksfests. Every year at the beginning of July, Reisbach's market square transforms into a festival ground for five days with a beer tent, showmen, food stalls, and live music. The event follows a fixed schedule: always the 2nd weekend of July (Friday–Tuesday).
Reisbach is located in Lower Bavaria (State of Bavaria) on the Vils — a tributary of the Danube — in the district of Dingolfing-Landau. The market town has around 7,500 inhabitants and, as the administrative seat of several districts, is typical of the Lower Bavarian administrative landscape. Historically, Reisbach was located on the Goldenen Steig, a medieval salt trading route between Bavaria and Bohemia, which gave the region its economic importance.
The Volksfest begins on Festival Friday with a concert at the market square, followed by the traditional parade: a colorful procession of Reisbach's clubs, music bands, traditional costume groups, and festival hosts. As is customary in Lower Bavaria, the parade is led by the brewery wagon of Langbräu Schierling — the brewery that supplies the festival tent with beer — with the festively decorated brewery wagon.
In the festival tent, the festival host serves freshly tapped Langbräu beer daily. The Maßkrugs are filled, and Lower Bavarian specialties — roast chicken, "Steckerlfisch" (fish grilled on a stick), roast pork, sausages, pretzels, and "Schmalznudeln" (doughnuts) — are served. Live bands provide the atmosphere on the dance evenings Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Sunday is traditionally dedicated to family and club life.
A special feature of the Reisbacher Volksfest is the boxing matches: the local boxing club BC Landau regularly organizes boxing evenings during the Volksfest with matches against selection teams from abroad — in 2026, a match between BC Landau vs. BC Wels (Austria) is scheduled. This makes the Reisbacher Volksfest one of the few Volksfests that incorporate boxing as a regular program element — tradition and sport in one festival week.
Outside the festival tent, classic showman operations are underway: carousels, a Ferris wheel variant, haunted house, candy stalls, food stalls with hearty festival fare, and game booths for children. Family afternoons with discounted prices on amusement rides usually take place on Saturday and Sunday.
The 2026 edition of the Reisbacher Volksfest follows the proven choreography: five festival days at the market square, opening on Friday, July 10th, 2026, with a concert and the traditional parade.
The brewery wagon of Langbräu Schierling leads the parade: festively decorated horses, brewery wagon, traditional costume groups, and music bands marched through the town to the festival grounds.
A special sporting highlight is the BC Landau boxing evening on Sunday, July 12th, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM — match BC Landau vs. BC Wels (Austria). This combination of Volksfest and boxing is a Reisbach tradition that distinguishes the festival from other Lower Bavarian Volksfests.
Throughout the entire festival weekend: live bands in the festival tent, family afternoon with reduced prices on amusement rides, Lower Bavarian festival food, and beer from Langbräu on tap.
