Wine festival in the historic Great Workshop of Landsweiler-Reden
The Reden Colliery in Landsweiler-Reden, a district of the Saarland mining town, was once one of the most important hard coal mines on the Saar. Today, the site is an industrial monument of regional importance – the Große Werkstatt (Great Workshop), an imposing brick industrial building, is considered an architectural gem and regularly hosts cultural and culinary events.
The Redener Wine Festival is one of the newer events at the site. Its premiere in 2025 already attracted a large audience that appreciated the unusual combination of raw industrial aesthetics and fine wine tasting. The second edition follows in 2026.
Unlike pure sales events, the festival focuses on the wine experience: Upon entry, visitors receive an exclusive festival glass and wine tokens (or a cost-effective combo package) with which they can sample at the stands of various vintners. The selection ranges from fruity white wines – Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc – to full-bodied reds from German and neighboring growing regions. Conversations with the vintners themselves are also explicitly encouraged.
The festival utilizes the full range of the site: Inside the historic workshop, the industrial ambiance provides a special setting, while the spacious outdoor area offers ambient lighting, catering, and seating under the open sky. Live music in a subtle lounge atmosphere completes the program.
The festival concludes with the Redener Weinwanderung (Reden Wine Hike) on Sunday (already the third edition as a standalone event in 2026) – a guided tour through the surrounding area with tasting stations at various stops. Industrial culture, nature, and wine combine to create an experience that is unique in this form in Saarland.
The organizer is Alm Event Gastro GmbH from Merchweiler, which hosts culinary events at the Reden site throughout the year – from street food festivals and Christmas markets to the wine festival. The brand "Auf der Alm in Landsweiler-Reden" has established itself as a fixture in the Saarland event calendar within a few years.
The second edition of the festival builds on the success of the 2025 premiere. Vintners from German and neighboring growing regions are expected, along with an expanded culinary accompanying program and, on Sunday, August 9, 2026, the 3rd Redener Wine Hike as the festival's finale. Admission to the grounds remains free – consumption is via the token system.
The specific list of vintners and detailed program will be published in July 2026 at alm-events.de/weinfestival.
