Dorffest Kienberg

A Village by Lake Obing

Kienberg is located in Chiemgau, approximately between Wasserburg am Inn and Chiemsee, in the Traunstein district. The municipality, with around 1,300 inhabitants, belongs to the Obing administrative district and is situated directly on Lake Obing, one of the smaller pre-Alpine lakes in Upper Bavaria. The annual village festival here is not a major tourist event, but a genuine club festival for the Kienberg clubs.

Obing Lido as Festival Site

The village festival is held on the meadow at the Obing lido directly on the lake shore. Long rows of tables, a festival tent, a stage for the brass band, and a snack stand with traditional Bavarian home cooking form the setting. In good weather — and midsummer in Chiemgau usually offers the best conditions — the lake becomes a natural backdrop, with the Chiemgau Alps visible on the horizon.

Brass Music, Beer, and Club Spirit

The main organizer is the Kienberg Music Association, supported by the other local clubs: fire department, traditional costume association, marksmen, sports club. The Kienberg brass band plays on stage, and in the evening, guest bands from neighboring communities usually take over. Draft festival beer, pork knuckle, grilled fish on a stick, and cheese dumplings are standard culinary offerings.

Family-Friendly and Down-to-Earth

The Dorffest Kienberg is explicitly designed to be family-friendly: no admission fee, early start in the afternoon, play stations for children, classic club festival program. Those who want to experience authentic Upper Bavaria away from the tourist hotspots will find a piece of real Chiemgau here — a local evening without a show character.
