Open Day at Recklinghausen Music School with student concerts in Willy-Brandt-Park
The Recklinghausen Music School Summer Festival has been a staple of the summer calendar in this Vest Recklinghausen city for years. On Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 12 PM to 6 PM, students from the music school will present concerts in Willy-Brandt-Park, right in the center of Recklinghausen. In parallel, the Music School will open its doors for an open day — families can get to know the entire range of offerings and try out instruments.
On several stages in the park, the various classes and ensembles of the music school will perform: strings, wind instruments, guitarists, pianists, choirs, bands, singer-songwriters. The skill level ranges from absolute beginners in their first semester to advanced teenagers who already compete in youth music competitions. The performances are short and varied, with a familiar and relaxed atmosphere.
One of the highlights is the performance by the JeKits children. The nationwide NRW program "Jedem Kind Instrumente, Tanzen, Singen" (Every Child Instruments, Dancing, Singing) offers primary school children a joint musical experience in their first two school years. In Recklinghausen, the music school cooperates with numerous primary schools. At the summer festival, entire classes will perform with xylophones, Boomwhackers, small drums, and vocals — a colorful, loud highlight of every summer festival.
In parallel to the concert program in the park, the music school itself is open. You can walk through the rooms, meet teachers, try out instruments — from the violin to the saxophone to the drums. The registration office provides advice on courses, private lessons, ensembles, and funding. There are hands-on stations for children and consultations for adults interested in instrumental lessons.
Willy-Brandt-Park is located directly in the center of Recklinghausen, very close to the city center and the Ruhrfestspielhaus. A small park area with trees, lawns, a playground, and water features — ideal for a family festival. In case of bad weather, parts of the program will be moved to the music school and adjacent rooms.
Recklinghausen, with around 110,000 inhabitants, is the district capital of the Recklinghausen district in the northern Ruhr area. It is primarily known for the Ruhrfestspiele, one of Europe's oldest theater festivals. The music school complements the city's cultural offerings with broad-based educational work. The summer festival is part of this public relations effort and, at the same time, a wonderful family festival for the city.
The 2026 Summer Festival combines the traditional student concert in the park with an open day at the music school's premises. Families can try out instruments, meet teachers, and get advice for the upcoming school year.
Exact performance times for individual classes will be published on the city's website shortly before the event.
