The Abendmarkt Recklinghausen is one of the popular street food formats in the Ruhr area. Instead of a one-off major event or a continuous weekly market, the concept focuses on five evening markets per season, each on a Friday from May to October. This keeps each date an event – without the format becoming routine.

Location: Kirchplatz in the Old Town

The venue is the Kirchplatz in Recklinghausen's old town – one of the city's most beautiful squares, surrounded by half-timbered and sandstone houses, dominated by St. Peter's Church. The urban yet manageable setting allows for an atmosphere that oscillates between a neighborhood festival and a full-blown festival.

2026 with a New Concept: Quieter, More Relaxed

Organizer Cono Cinquemani has developed a revised concept for 2026. Background: In recent years, the evening market was sometimes overcrowded, leading to long queues at the stalls and a loss of charm. In 2026, the focus will be on a quieter atmosphere: less visitor pressure, longer standing times, more breaks between acts. The number of stalls will be slightly reduced, and the space will be utilized more generously.

Dates 2026: Five Fridays Spread Across the Season

The five dates in 2026 are:

• Friday, May 8, 2026 – Season opener
• Friday, June 5, 2026
• Friday, July 3, 2026
• Friday, August 7, 2026
• Friday, October 2, 2026 – Season finale

Each from 5 PM to 10 PM. The format thus avoids the large summer after-work lull between July and August (there is a date in August) but consciously shifts to the first Friday of the month.

International Street Food and Vegan Options

The offerings clearly align with the street food trend: Burgers, Tacos, Asian Bowls, BBQ, Pulled Pork, Currywurst variations, Reibekuchen, Crêpes, Bubble Waffles. Vegan and vegetarian options are explicitly part of the concept – a point that distinguishes the format from the classic bratwurst town festival.

Live DJ as Musical Ambiance

A live DJ accompanies each evening market with electronic lounge music, Funk, Soul, House, or Disco classics – depending on the DJ and the mood. No live band, no loud concert: the sound remains in the background, allowing for conversation at the standing tables.
