Volksfest on the southern shore of the Müritz with a parade and fireworks
The Rechliner Müritzfest is the traditional Volksfest (public festival) of the municipality of Rechlin and is celebrated annually in July. The festival grounds on Fritz-Reuter-Straße are located near the southern shore of the Müritz – with around 117 square kilometers, it is the largest lake located entirely within Germany and gives its name to the Mecklenburg Lake District region. The festival has a long history; the 2026 edition will be the 43rd of its kind.
The centerpiece is the parade, which moves through Rechlin every year under a new, often humorous motto. Clubs, groups, and residents design colorful floats and walking groups and march in a flamboyant, cheerful procession through the town. The parade is the heart of the festival and an occasion for many Rechliners to get creatively involved.
A varied program is spread over the three festival days: live bands and DJs create the atmosphere, show dancing and line dancing are on the program, a tombola tempts with prizes, and showmen bring rides to the festival grounds. The traditional grand finale is a fireworks display over the festival area. Friday starts in the afternoon, Saturday and Sunday already in the morning.
Rechlin is located in the Mecklenburg Lake District district and is a popular water sports and holiday destination. The Müritzfest combines the village community with the numerous guests who come to the Müritz in the summer – a successful example of a North German Volksfest with regional identity.
Rechlin celebrates its Müritzfest for the 43rd time from July 24 to 26, 2026. The festival grounds at Fritz-Reuter-Straße will become a meeting point for locals and holidaymakers.
The highlight is once again the parade, which moves through the town under a special motto. In addition, there will be live bands, DJs, show dancing, line dancing, a tombola, and rides from showmen. The event concludes with fireworks over the festival area.
