Ravensburger Lichterfest — Art Light Night in the Old Town

On Saturday, March 7, 2026 (backup date March 14 in case of bad weather), the fourth Ravensburger Lichterfest transforms the old town into a continuous light art installation. According to the organizer, the event is one of the largest participatory art projects in the German-speaking world: Over 1,500 participants carry the grand figure parade, and tens of thousands of visitors come to the city center.

The Grand Figure Parade — 6:30 PM

The central program point is the figure parade starting at 6:30 PM through Ravensburg's old town. Artfully designed light objects, lanterns, and large figures move through the alleys — carried, rolled, pushed by school classes, kindergarten groups, clubs, and volunteers. Before the parade, the objects are created over several weeks and months in open workshops, joint activities, and school projects — this is the character of the festival: It's not a top-down light spectacle, but a city population creating its own night.

Accompanying Program from 4:30 PM

Starting at 4:30 PM, the accompanying program runs throughout the city: light installations on historic facades, live music at several stations, art exhibitions, and performances. The old town, with its medieval substance — city gates, towers, alleys — is the ideal stage. The houses are illuminated, shop windows become galleries, and Marienplatz becomes the main stage.

Four Colored Zones with Tickets

New since 2026: The old town is divided into four colored zones. With your ticket, you get a colored wristband corresponding to your access to one of these zones — the system was introduced to manage crowds and avoid congestion without destroying the participatory character of the festival. Family packages and free bands for low-income visitors are explicitly provided.

Ravensburg — The City of Towers and Art

Ravensburg in the Ravensburg district is one of the best-preserved medieval townscapes in southern Germany — the famous towers (Mehlsack, Blaserturm, Frauentor), the intact city walls, the narrow alleys. The Lichterfest plays with this substance and makes it the stage for a contemporary art project for one night. The organizer is the Kulturzentrum KAPUZINER Ravensburg, a socio-cultural center with a long tradition in the independent scene.

Lichterfest Ravensburg — edition 2026

The 4th Ravensburger Lichterfest takes place on Saturday, March 7, 2026, in the old town (backup date March 14 in case of bad weather). From 4:30 PM, an accompanying program throughout the city, and from 6:30 PM, the grand figure parade with over 1,500 participants, light objects, and large figures. Four colored zones with wristbands for visitor management. Admission €5. Organizer: Kulturzentrum KAPUZINER Ravensburg.

Program 2026 — Lights in the Old Town

The 4th edition of the Ravensburger Lichterfest builds on the proven structure: months of preparation in open workshops, followed by a single night of joint staging in the old town. Schools, kindergartens, clubs, and volunteers from the city and surrounding areas create the objects, and the organizer KAPUZINER coordinates.

New in 2026 is the four-zone system: The old town is divided into four colored zones, and your wristband assigns you to a zone. This is intended to reduce congestion at hotspots without compromising the festival's free character. Family packages and free bands are still available.
