Four weeks of Advent magic in the Upper Swabian old town — Marienplatz, Bachstraße, and the giant advent calendar at the Lederhaus
The Ravensburg Christkindlesmarkt is one of the most beautiful Christmas markets in Baden-Württemberg. The combination of a medieval old town setting, Upper Swabian hospitality, and four weeks of continuous opening hours makes it a fixed date for families from the entire Lake Constance region, Southern Germany, and neighboring Switzerland.
The market extends along the central axis of the old town: the main zone is Marienplatz with the distinctive Lederhaus and its giant advent calendar. From there, the market stretches across the Rathausplatz, Marktstraße, and into Bachstraße. In between lie the alleys with cafés, owner-run boutiques, and Ravensburg's traditional towers — Mehlsack, Blaserturm, with Veitsburg in the background.
Around 100 stallholders offer high-quality arts and crafts — carvings, jewelry, leather goods, candles, handmade wooden toys, glassblowing. Alongside the culinary delights: Swabian Bredle (cookies) and fresh wood-fired bread, Dinnete (Upper Swabian flatbread) fresh from the wood-fired oven, mulled wine variations with blueberry, apple, or white mulled wine. The catering tents in Alpine chalet style serve daily until 10 PM (Thu–Sat until midnight).
A Ravensburg specialty: A giant advent calendar is installed every year on the facade of Modehaus Bredl on Marienplatz — one of the market's most famous landmarks. From December 1 to 24, a window is opened each day; the little show behind it is both tradition and a selfie spot.
Live musicians, theater performances, children's program with craft activities, encounters with St. Nicholas, and craft demonstrations accompany the market throughout. The city of Ravensburg, one of the wealthiest imperial cities of the Middle Ages, has preserved its historic cityscape — giving the market a backdrop that other Upper Swabian cities do not have.
With a 27-day run, the Ravensburg market is one of the longest Christmas markets in Baden-Württemberg. The opening on Thursday, November 27, 2026, traditionally marks the start of the Advent season for the entire Lake Constance region. The market is also busy on weekdays, not just on weekends.
The 2026 program continues the proven classics: live music on the stage at Marienplatz, theater performances, craft activities for children, and craft demonstrations — from wood sculptors to glassblowers. St. Nicholas regularly visits the market.
Free admission to the market. Mulled wine €4–5, Dinnete from €8, Bredle and small items at usual Christmas market prices. Deposit for mulled wine cups €3–4.
Train: Ravensburg station, a five-minute walk to Marienplatz — IC and regional trains from Stuttgart, Munich, Friedrichshafen, Lindau. Car: Travel via A96 (Lindau–Memmingen) or B30; parking garages in the city center (P3 Marienplatz, P5 Bahnhof). During the Advent season, public transport or Park & Ride is highly recommended.
