Germany's largest political free open-air festival on Tübingen's Jahnallee — June 12 & 13, 2026
The Ract!festival is one of the most extraordinary festivals in Baden-Württemberg: free and outdoors, non-commercial, political. Organized by a volunteer association in Tübingen, it draws tens of thousands of visitors to Jahnallee every summer — a wide green space between the Neckar river and the city, transformed into an event platform with three stages, workshop tents, and food areas for the festival. In 2026, the festival runs on Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13.
Musically, Ract!festival is widely diverse: Punk, Rock, Ska, Rap, Hip-Hop, Techno — everything finds its place here, performed by a mix of established indie bands and local newcomers. A dense program runs concurrently on three stages from afternoon until late at night. After-show parties in nearby clubs extend the evening for those who can't get enough.
What sets Ract!festival apart from other open-air festivals is its political program: workshops, lectures, discussion rounds on current political topics — climate, anti-fascism, social movements, feminism, anti-capitalism, international politics. The workshops are “an important part of our festival,” the association itself writes. The audience: Tübingen students, activists from all over southern Germany, families, and politically interested people from the region.
The festival is completely free. It is financed by donations, catering revenue, a solidarity contribution from voluntary visitors, and funding from the city of Tübingen and other partners. This financing structure is part of the political program: culture must be accessible, festivals must not disappear behind ticket walls.
The university city of Tübingen, with its approximately 90,000 inhabitants and 28,000 students, is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in Baden-Württemberg. Tübingen hosts several festivals — French Film Days, Tübingen International Jazz Festival, etc. — but Ract! is the most politically prominent and the largest free one. Tübingen is located in the Tübingen district, about 30 km south of Stuttgart. Jahnallee itself is a central event location in the city, within walking distance of the Neckar island and the old town.
Two festival days on Jahnallee with the classic Ract! mix: music on three stages with a spectrum from Punk to Techno, parallel political workshops and lectures. The full lineup will be announced in the weeks before the festival on ract-festival.org.
