Music to Mark the Start of Summer
The Fête de la Musique originated in France in 1982 and is now celebrated worldwide on June 21 – the day of the summer solstice. Eisenach, the Wartburg town on the western edge of Thuringia and home to the Wartburg Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has long adapted this format, turning its city center into a free open-air music stage every year.
Multiple Venues, All Styles
Small and large music spots will emerge throughout the city center, where artists will perform for their audiences. From the market square in front of the city palace, along Karlstraße, to Lutherplatz and Predigerkirche – the city becomes a decentralized festival stage. All musical genres are represented: Samba, Folk, Singer-Songwriter, Rock, Pop, Jazz, Classical, Electrobeats.
Open to All Musicians
Musicians, bands, and groups of all styles can register in advance – participation is free. The festival thrives on the engagement of the local and regional scene, supplemented by guests from Germany and abroad.
Eisenach – More Than Just the Wartburg
Eisenach is the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach and a Luther town: It was here that the Reformer translated the New Testament into German on the Wartburg. This cultural depth gives the Fête de la Musique a special resonance – street music in the shadow of the Wartburg.
