The Community's Summer Festival

The Sommerspektakel Essen (Oldenburg) is a family festival organized by the Gemeindejugendring Essen (municipal youth association). It is aimed at children, young people, and families from the entire municipality and its districts. The venue is the central Schützenplatz Essen.

Saturday, August 8, 2026 — from 10 AM to 6 PM

The 2026 edition takes place on Saturday, August 8, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. A full day where local clubs, youth groups, and initiatives present their work — and above all, offer hands-on activities.

The Sommerspektakel follows the concept of a classic community festival: games and crafts stations, sports activities, stage shows, culinary stands from local clubs. It is a meeting point for generations, where the community presents itself and becomes visible.

Parallel: Osteressen's 800th Anniversary

On the same day, the district of Osteressen celebrates a historic anniversary: 800 years of Osteressen. The Osteressen village community invites you to the anniversary celebration at the village community center. Both events can be combined on one day and shape the community on this August Saturday.

The municipality, with around 8,500 inhabitants, consists of numerous districts whose club life forms the backbone of the cultural offerings.
