Eisenach — Wartburg Town and Mobility Hub
With around 42,000 inhabitants, Eisenach is one of Thuringia's most famous cities — birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach, working place of Martin Luther at the Wartburg (UNESCO World Heritage Site), home of the Wartburg automobile. The combination of classical heritage and automotive tradition shapes the city's identity and is also reflected in the city festival.
The «Erlebnismeile» on the Market Square
The city festival is designed as an «Erlebnismeile»: The market square, Karlsplatz, Karlstraße, and side streets become the festival area for six hours. The focus is on gastronomic and musical offerings — on the periphery, the car show, which distinguishes the festival from many others.
Car Show with BMW, Mercedes, Cupra, Mazda, Renault, Volvo, XPeng
The car show is part of the program: regional dealers present current models from economical small cars to sporty sedans to modern electric vehicles. Brands: BMW, Mercedes, Cupra, Mazda, Renault, Volvo, and XPeng (Chinese electric car brand). The spectrum shows the breadth of contemporary mobility — from combustion engines to e-mobility.
Threeplay and Family Program
The day is musically accompanied by a moderator with a DJ — and above all by the local live band Threeplay, which creates a great atmosphere on the market square. For children, there are carousels, bouncy castles, and a popular selfie photo booth. A mix of city festival, trade fair, and family day.
Sustainable Mobility in Focus
Programmatically, the 2026 city festival is complemented by sustainable mobility: The ADFC Wartburgkreis provides information on bicycle safety and tour suggestions, and the Eisenach utility company presents solutions for charging infrastructure and electromobility. Thus, the city festival sends a clear signal — mobility in all its forms is made visible.
Sunday Shopping from 1 PM
From 1 PM, shops in the city center open for Sunday shopping with special offers. This makes the city festival a joint initiative of the business association and retailers — an economically important date for Eisenach's city center.
Eisenach City Festival — edition 2026
The 2026 «Erlebnismeile» starts on Sunday, April 26, at 12 PM. The main stage with moderator and DJ, as well as live performances by the band Threeplay, are located on the market square. Along Karlstraße and on the surrounding squares, the stands of the car show are spread out — seven brands, from BMW and Mercedes to Cupra, XPeng, and Volvo. Street food stalls offer grilled specialties, burgers, fries, coffee specialties, and sweets.
For children, there are carousels, bouncy castles, and the selfie photo booth. From 1 PM, the shops in the city center open for Sunday shopping. The ADFC Wartburgkreis and the Eisenach utility company complement the program with advice on bicycle safety and e-mobility. The Red Cross presents disaster response vehicles, and the fire department demonstrates vehicle recovery.
