German Mill Day with live music, old crafts, and milling operations at the historic watermill
The German Mill Day takes place nationwide every year on Whit Monday. On this day, historic windmills and watermills open their doors and invite visitors for a glimpse into traditional milling and old crafts. The Karoxbostel Watermill in Seevetal is one of the participating mills in the Hamburg / Lower Saxony region.
The Mill Day starts at 11 am and lasts until 5 pm. Six hours of program around the mill with milling operations, live music, craft demonstrations, and catering. Free admission.
The Karoxbostel Watermill will be put into operation on Mill Day. Visitors can experience the milling process live: from pouring the grain to collecting the freshly ground flour, the miller demonstrates the traditional work steps. In addition, there will be bread baking in the historic oven, sawing demonstrations with historic tools, and blacksmithing in the mill workshop.
Three musical acts will accompany the day: The BlueMinor Swing Band opens at 12 pm with swing classics and jazz standards. At 2 pm, the Quarrendorf children's dance group performs, a highlight for the youngest visitors. From 3 pm, the Dusty Sofa Band takes the stage with folksy and melodic sounds. Three musical worlds in one day.
Freshly baked bread from the mill oven, coffee and cake, bratwurst, and snacks cover gastronomic needs. Children can experience the miller's craft in the mill, watch the blacksmithing, and experience traditional crafts up close. A classic family program in a historic setting.
The 2026 edition is part of the nationwide German Mill Day on Whit Monday. The Karoxbostel Watermill opens its doors and showcases the traditional miller's craft live in action.
The musical program with three very different acts – swing jazz, children's dance, folk – offers something for everyone's taste and makes the Mill Day a convivial family festival.
