Three days of Volksfest at Bahnhofsplatz in Strohgäu — the mega party of the Spielmanns- and Fanfarenzüge
Hemmingen is located in the southern district of Ludwigsburg (AGS 08118), in the heart of Strohgäu — the agriculturally characterized plateau between Stuttgart and Heilbronn, traditionally known for straw hats, grain, and asparagus. For decades, the Spielmanns- und Fanfarenzug Hemmingen e.V. (SZFZ) has organized its Göckelesfest at Bahnhofsplatz here — three days of Volksfest with a festival tent, live music, and Swabian cuisine.
Date 2026: Friday, June 5th to Sunday, June 7th. The festival traditionally begins on Friday evening with the beer tapping ceremony and concerts by the SZFZ's music and youth bands. Saturday features performances by regional music clubs and friendly Spielmanns- und Fanfarenzüge — the SZFZ maintains contacts with clubs throughout Southern Germany and Switzerland. Sunday's program includes the traditional Frühschoppen (morning pint) with brass music and grilled Göckele (Swabian for "little chickens"). "Göckele" are the symbol of the festival and the reason for its name.
The SZFZ was founded in 1952 as a fire brigade band and has been a registered association since 1973. Today, the club has a music band for adults, a youth band, and a Bambini band — over 100 musicians in total. The repertoire ranges from traditional march music to modern Spielmannsstücke (pipe and drum music) and popular music. The club is heavily involved in youth work and participates in festivals throughout the region.
The Göckelesfest is more than just a club festival — it is an institution for the municipality of Hemmingen. Citizens of all generations meet at Bahnhofsplatz, schools and kindergartens participate with small performances, and friendly clubs from Germany and abroad travel for the weekend. Anyone who wants to get an impression of village club life in Strohgäu will find it here.
