Traditional Kerwe in the smallest town in the Palatinate with music and party program, parade, and a grand fireworks display
The Kerwe in Obermoschel is the annual folk festival of the smallest town in the Palatinate, organized by TuS Landsberg Obermoschel. For four days, the festival grounds on Bahnhofstraße are transformed into a festival mile with music, catering, a traditional parade, and a grand fireworks display as the highlight.
In 2026, the Kerwe will run from Saturday, August 8th to Tuesday, August 11th. Music and party programs on all days, the traditional parade on Sunday, and the fireworks display are among the fixed program points. Further details will be communicated in the advance announcement.
Obermoschel in the Donnersbergkreis, with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants, is the smallest town in the Palatinate and has held town rights since the Middle Ages. The historic buildings, the nearby Moschellandsburg castle, and its rural-romantic location in the Alsenztal shape the townscape. Despite its size, Obermoschel is culturally active – the Kerwe is one of the annual highlights.
The "Kerwe" (Kirchweihfest, church consecration festival) is a Palatinate folk festival tradition that originated from the religious consecration festival of the parish church and has developed over the centuries into a multi-day secular folk festival. Palatinate specialties, wine, beer, music, dance, and community characterize the Kerwe, each with its own accents and peculiarities in every Palatinate town.
The Kerwe is organized by TuS Landsberg Obermoschel, the town's traditional gymnastics and sports club. The volunteer-led organization, the setup of the festival infrastructure, and the execution of the program are a community effort that the club delivers at a high level every year. The proceeds from the Kerwe flow back into the club's activities.
The grand fireworks display is the most visually and atmospherically impressive element of the Kerwe. The firework effects illuminate the festival grounds and the North Palatinate landscape and are visible from afar. The fireworks are not only a spectacle for the festival visitors but also a communal event for the entire town and its surroundings.
