5th edition of the community festival at the Alter Schulplatz — DRK medical service and JRK crêpe stand
The Fleckenfest is the most important civic festival in the municipality of Hemmingen. The name “Fleckenfest” derives from the old Württemberg term Flecken — which, until the 19th century, designated a municipality that did not have town rights but was larger than a village. Hemmingen is precisely such a “Flecken” — a rural-urban municipality in the Strohgäu region, about 20 km northwest of Stuttgart. The 5th edition of the Fleckenfest will take place on 25 and 26 July 2026 on the Alter Schulplatz.
The Fleckenfest follows the classic format of a Hemmingen community festival: festival operations on the Alter Schulplatz and in the surrounding town center, catering by local clubs (sports, music, fire department, church communities), live music on stage, family activities for children. The DRK local chapter Hemmingen will be present as the medical service — an important function at any public civic festival.
A special program feature for the 2026 edition: The Youth Red Cross (JRK) Hemmingen will be selling crêpes from a new mobile station. This is a cooperation between the DRK local chapter Hemmingen and the DRK district association Ludwigsburg — the mobile station is intended for further use at future events. The crêpe stand is both a catering offering and a way to make the youth work of both DRK organizations more visible.
Hemmingen (approx. 8,000 inhabitants, Ludwigsburg district, AGS 08118) is located in the Strohgäu — a flat, agriculturally characterized hilly landscape between Stuttgart and Heilbronn. The municipality is not to be confused with the Lower Saxony Hemmingen near Hanover. The Strohgäu location shapes the appearance of the municipality: old farmhouses, fields, a lively club life. Besides the festivals of individual clubs (music club concert, sports club summer party), the Fleckenfest is the most important joint civic festival of the year.
The 2026 edition marks the 5th iteration of the Fleckenfest — a still young format, but one that has become a firm fixture in the Hemmingen calendar. The Alter Schulplatz in the town center is the central festival stage; local clubs, the DRK, and the municipality share the organization.
This year's special feature is the new mobile JRK crêpe station — it is intended for further use at future events and also serves to highlight the work of the Youth Red Cross in Hemmingen and the region.
