LGBTQ+ music festival in Leipzig's most vibrant club scene
The Queer Music Festival Leipzig was founded in 2024 and has become a regular fixture in Germany's queer festival scene within a few years. It sees itself as a stage for LGBTQ+ artists in music and a meeting point for a scene that has found a particularly vital home in Leipzig.
The festival uses nine venues that are well-known in Leipzig's independent culture scene: the UT Connewitz cinema, Moritzbastei (the student cultural center), Heilandskirche am Westkreuz, Distillery (one of the oldest techno clubs in East Germany), Neue Welle, Kinobar Prager Frühling, Phat Cat Comedy Club, Tanzerei Flugfisch, and Heizhaus. The diversity of the venues matches the musical breadth – from intimate singer-songwriter concerts in churches to DJ sets in dark clubs.
Beyond the concert program, the festival offers film screenings with queer themes, drag shows, dance classes, artist talks, quiz nights, and networking events. The concept aims at encounters and exchange – not just the consumption of concerts.
Leipzig, with around 600,000 inhabitants, is the largest city in the state of Saxony and an independent city (AGS 14713). For years, the city has attracted a growing queer community and has established itself – with clubs, associations, and festivals – as one of the most important queer hotspots in East Germany.
With each edition, the Queer Music Festival gains visibility. In 2026, the festival will expand its program once again, clearly positioning itself as a musical heavyweight in Germany's queer festival landscape – a counterbalance to Berlin formats, with its own profile and close ties to Leipzig's subculture.
With its third edition, the Queer Music Festival continues to grow. For four days, the program is spread across nine venues – with a clear focus on queer music in all its forms, from alternative pop and electronic to singer-songwriter.
In addition to concerts, the festival features film series with an LGBTQ+ focus, presents drag shows, and hosts club nights with internationally renowned DJs. Workshops and artist talks round off the program.
Leipzig Hauptbahnhof (main station) is directly accessible from all over Germany by ICE high-speed train. The venues are spread across several city districts – the tram and S-Bahn will take you to all locations.
Festival passes and single tickets are available via the festival website and at the respective venues. Early booking is recommended – individual concerts sell out quickly.
Those who want to experience the full festival program should plan for multiple venues per day and use the tram for transportation. Leipzig's subculture in Connewitz, Plagwitz, and the south also offers queer bars and cafés that are ideal for breaks.
