Open-air in the castle park with village anniversary 1230 years
Marisfeld is a small village in the Hildburghausen district, nestled in the hilly landscape of Southern Thuringia. In 2026, the village celebrates its 1230th anniversary — the first documented mention dates back to the year 796. The anniversary gives the already traditional Schloss Parkfest special significance.
Marisfeld Castle, with its extensive park, has shaped the village since the 18th century. Today, the castle park is publicly accessible and hosts the Schloss Parkfest — one of the oldest village open-air festivals in Southern Thuringia. The park festival has a tradition dating back to the 1960s, with continuous execution throughout the GDR era.
With the 62nd edition in 2026, the Schloss Parkfest approaches its 65th anniversary. The format has grown over the decades: three days of open-air programming in the castle park, with music, marquee operations, dancing, and gastronomy. The organizers are the municipality of Marisfeld and a dedicated castle park association that organizes the event.
The 2026 festival runs from Friday, June 26th to Sunday, June 28th. Friday evening features the opening with a beer tapping ceremony and the first concerts. Saturday offers a full day of main programming with live music, dancing, and marquee operations. Sunday is dedicated to family programming and a morning pint with brass music. The anniversary motto '1230 Years Marisfeld' will be evident in the program — with references to village history and special show acts.
What makes the Marisfeld Parkfest special is the atmosphere of the castle park: old trees, the castle as a backdrop, an intimate stage area amidst the meadows. The festival is family-friendly — not a commercialized large event, but a village open-air with supra-regional charm, attracting regular guests from southern Thuringia and nearby Bavaria.
The 2026 festival combines two occasions: the 62nd edition of the traditional Schloss Parkfest and the village's 1230th anniversary. Friday, June 26th: Evening opening with beer tapping, anniversary ceremony, and first concerts in the castle park. Saturday, June 27th: Full-day main program with live music, marquee, dancing, and interactive activities. Sunday, June 28th: Family program, 'Frühschoppen' (morning pint) with brass music, and winding down in the afternoon.
The anniversary theme will be evident in the program: historical references to village history, special musical accents, and an expanded family program. The lineup of bands will be gradually released in spring 2026.
