During the second week of September 2026, Leipzig will become the stage for a special event. The «Festival Gutes Leben Leipzig» explores the many answers a city can give to the question «What does a good life mean?» — not in the form of a large central stage, but decentrally in the neighborhoods, backyards, initiative spaces, and workshops of the city.

Program Between Workshops, Walks, and Lectures

The format is accessible and participatory. City walks lead to interesting initiatives, community gardens, and socio-ecological sites. Workshops impart practical skills — from repair cafes to solidarity-based economics to creative expression. Readings in intimate spaces, discussion rounds in cultural centers, and outdoor hands-on activities complement the offerings. The program focuses on: sustainable neighborhoods, cultural diversity, social justice, ecological future viability, intergenerational exchange.

Initiatives, Associations, and Engaged Citizens as Organizers

The festival is not organized by a single entity, but is supported by a multitude of initiatives, associations, and engaged citizens. A central festival office (Eisenbahnstr. 66, in Leipzig-Volkmarsdorf) coordinates activities. Those who wish to contribute an event can register via the festival website — program items are curated together. An open consultation hour (online) offers monthly advice and networking.

Making Leipzig's Diversity Visible

The festival utilizes Leipzig's already vibrant landscape of initiatives. From Connewitz-Kreuz to Volkmarsdorf, from Westwerk to Nordvorstadt — the city districts showcase the alternative ways of living and working that are already practiced in Leipzig. The idea: not a festival that imports content, but one that brings together and makes visible the existing diversity.
