A Summer Festival Right by the Sea

Kellenhusen is a traditional Baltic Sea resort on the Lübeck Bay in the Ostholstein district of Schleswig-Holstein, about halfway between Lübeck and Fehmarn. The approximately one-and-a-half-kilometer-long beach promenade ends at the pier, which juts far out into the sea — the town's landmark. The Promenadenfest is centered right here.

Strolling Market, Stage, and Fried Fish

For three days, market stalls line the entire promenade: arts and crafts, beach fashion, regional food products, fish sandwiches and fried fish, plus ice cream, coffee, and cocktails. On the large open-air stage at Seebrückenplatz, several bands and solo artists alternate from Friday to Sunday — the organizers expect a total of 21 hours of live music over the weekend.

The Light Spectacle to Conclude

The highlight is the light spectacle at the pier on Sunday evening: the historic pier is bathed in colours and staged, often accompanied by live music from the pierhead. Thousands of onlookers then gather on the beach and promenade to experience the finale.

Atmosphere and Audience

The festival appeals to a mixed audience: summer holidaymakers from Northern Germany, day-trippers from Lübeck, Hamburg, and Kiel, as well as locals from Kellenhusen and the surrounding Baltic Sea resorts of Grömitz, Dahme, and Heiligenhafen. Admission is free, and the format is family-friendly.
