Festival premiere 2026 — a summer cultural festival on the grounds of the baroque Clemenswerth Castle in Sögel
Clemenswerth Castle in Sögel, built by Johann Conrad Schlaun between 1737 and 1747, is one of Northern Germany's outstanding Baroque ensembles. The star-shaped complex with a central main pavilion and eight surrounding`Kavaliershäuser` (groomsmen's houses) is now home to the Emsland Museum and is a candidate for the UNESCO World Heritage list. The castle and its extensive parkland provide an extraordinary setting for summer open-air events that have increasingly come into focus in Emsland's cultural work in recent years.
With the Schlosszauber 2026, the municipality of Sögel and the Emsland Museum are celebrating the premiere of a new festival format that further exploits the cultural possibilities of the castle grounds. The festival day on August 24 is intended to combine music, art, culinary offerings, and a convivial atmosphere, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the baroque ambiance. The premiere is designed to be open-ended and is intended to be expanded as a recurring format in the coming years.
The Schlosszauber utilizes the possibilities of the extensive castle complex: The stage can be set up in front of the castle's main facade, in one of the courtyards, or in the park, depending on the weather and program design. The historic buildings offer an unusual stage architecture, and the castle park paths invite visitors to explore the grounds between program items. The concept thus combines the enjoyment of the festival program with the experience of an outstanding historical site.
With the premiere of the Schlosszauber, another highlight is added to the growing range of events at Clemenswerth Castle. From the Gloriette Concert in June, the ParkArt art market in August, to Advent at Clemenswerth in December, a dense cultural program extends throughout the year, making the castle one of the most vibrant cultural venues in the Emsland region.
With the Schlosszauber, a new cultural format will be launched at Clemenswerth Castle in 2026. The exact program for the premiere will be announced in advance by the organizing team from the Emsland Museum and the municipality of Sögel. The festival day aims to span a diverse spectrum that does justice to the character of the location.
The exact program for the 2026 festival premiere will be published by the organizer in spring and summer. The structure follows the typical cornerstones of a castle festival:
