Two days of beach festival on the Südstrandpromenade with fireworks display
Every year in midsummer, the Promenadenfest transforms the Südstrandpromenade in Großenbrode into a two-day festival mile. Großenbrode is located in the Ostholstein district on the Baltic Sea coast of Schleswig-Holstein, directly on the Fehmarnsund — the transition point to the island of Fehmarn. The festival is considered one of the most popular beach festivals on the Ostholstein coast and attracts guests from the entire state and from Hamburg.
The musical concept focuses on diversity: Live music of various genres is played on the MeerBühne directly on the Südstrand — from cover rock and acoustic pop to Schlager and party hits. A second stage further along the promenade complements the offering with DJ sets and smaller acts. Between the stages, the Kopfhörerparty (Silent Disco with three channels) provides an extraordinary experience: dancers listen to music only via headphones, the beach remains quiet — but the atmosphere is all the more intense.
During the day, walking acts and street art performers populate the promenade: stilt walkers, mimes, acrobats, and bubble artists. For families, there are craft stands, face painting, and small interactive activities. Food trucks and stalls from local gastronomy offer fresh fish, crêpes, burgers, and North German specialties, along with cocktails and Baltic Sea beer — all with a direct view of the water.
The highlight is the fireworks display on Saturday evening around 10:45 PM, launched over the Baltic Sea from the Seebrückenkopf — one of the few beach fireworks displays in the region. The reflection on the water's surface and the wide horizon make it a special spectacle that can be admired from the entire Südstrandpromenade.
The 2026 edition of the Promenadenfest remains true to the two-day concept — Friday and Saturday, each starting in the afternoon until late at night. The MeerBühne directly on the Südstrand and a second stage further south on the promenade offer varied live music, while the headphone party attracts a younger audience. Street art walking acts animate the promenade during the day, and food trucks and beach kiosks provide refreshments.
The organizer announces for the 2026 edition an enhanced family zone with craft activities and face painting, plus three channels for the Silent Disco instead of the previous two. The fireworks display from the Seebrückenkopf remains a central element of Saturday evening.
The complete lineup of bands and DJs is usually announced by the organizer Großenbrode Tourismus Service four to six weeks before the festival on the official website.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Food and drinks are charged according to stall prices. Silent Disco headphones can be borrowed for a deposit.
By car via the A1 (Hamburg–Heiligenhafen, exit Heiligenhafen-Ost) or the B207 to Großenbrode. Großenbrode train station with connections from Lübeck and Hamburg. Free beach parking in the low season, heavily frequented on festival weekends.
Free for the entire festival grounds. Food and drink and headphone deposit are subject to charge.
Reserve a beach chair the day before or bring a picnic — the promenade fills up quickly, especially towards the fireworks.
