Whitsun weekend on the South Beach of the Baltic Sea
Großenbrode is located on the Bay of Lübeck in the district of Ostholstein in the state of Schleswig-Holstein — a small peninsula directly opposite the island of Fehmarn, connected by the Fehmarn Belt Bridge. The municipality is a Baltic Sea spa and thrives on its long sandy beaches, maritime charm, and active tourism infrastructure. In summer, Großenbrode is a popular destination for families, surfers, and nature tourists.
The MeerPfingsten festival format has established itself as Großenbrode's Whitsun weekend highlight. On the MeerBühne on the South Beach, concerts, interactive programs, and sporting activities are spread over three days. The concept combines family entertainment with the maritime character of the Baltic Sea beach — Whitsun right on the water, with seagulls in the background and the sea breeze.
The official Tourist Information office of Großenbrode confirms the following program items:
Großenbrode's South Beach is one of the busiest beaches in the region during the summer — and in Whitsun 2026, it becomes the festival stage. The MeerBühne is a modular open-air construction right on the water; the audience sits or stands on the sand or on the meadows near the shore. In case of bad weather, individual program items will be moved to covered areas.
Großenbrode belongs to the district of Ostholstein in the state of Schleswig-Holstein — the easternmost region of the state, with Fehmarn as its most prominent part. Access via the A1 and B207 makes Großenbrode reachable for day trips from Hamburg, Lübeck, and Kiel.
The festival runs over Whitsun 2026 from Saturday, May 23rd to Whit Monday, May 25th — as usual on the municipality's South Beach. The Großenbrode Tourist Information has confirmed the program items: from the morning Zumba session and the children's program to the brass band on Whit Monday.
MeerPfingsten is consciously designed to be family-oriented: interactive activities, children's programs with Ben the Bear, singer-songwriter and band concerts are complemented by program items aimed at adults and older generations (gospel choir, brass bands, open-air church service).
The detailed daily schedule will be published a few weeks before the festival on grossenbrode.de. The confirmed program structure:
