Over 40 years of triathlon in Trebgast
The POWERTRIATHLON Trebgast has been held since 1984 — in 2026, the race will mark its 43rd edition. This makes it one of the oldest continuously held triathlon events in Germany. Organized by ATS Kulmbach (Allgemeiner Turn- und Sportverein Kulmbach), the race has evolved over the decades from a regional popular triathlon into an event known beyond the region.
Trebgast lake as an ideal competition venue
The venue is Trebgast lake at Weiherweg 4 — a 16-hectare natural swimming area with clear water in the Kulmbach district. The lake offers ideal conditions for the swimming leg: calm, clearly defined, with well-kept grassy areas on the shore for families and companions. The cycling and running routes lead through the hilly Fichtelgebirge foothills — scenically attractive and athletically challenging.
Courses and Categories
The race offers several distances, from introductory (Schnupper) to popular (Volks) to Olympic triathlons, as well as team relays. Registration for 2026 has been open since December 1, 2025, with early-bird discounts available, and the registration deadline for the guaranteed finisher gift is May 15, 2026.
Trebgast and the Fichtelgebirge foothills
Trebgast is a market town with around 1,800 inhabitants in the Kulmbach district, in the state of Bavaria. It lies on the southern edge of the Fichtelgebirge and is connected to Bayreuth and Hof via the Schiefe Ebene (legendary steep railway line). The lake is a popular local recreation spot for the entire region in summer — the POWERTRIATHLON serves as its annual sporting highlight.
What makes the POWERTRIATHLON special
The competition has retained its character as a popular triathlon: introductory triathletes and ambitious athletes start on the same day, and the audience consists of families, clubs, and Trebgast citizens. Sponsor TenneT, the supra-regional transmission system operator, enables the organizers to provide professional logistics within a family atmosphere — this is what sets it apart from purely commercial competitions.
POWERTRIATHLON Trebgast — edition 2026
The 43rd edition of the Trebgast triathlon maintains the format and concept of previous years: popular triathlon character, multiple distance categories, swimming in the lake, cycling and running routes through the Fichtelgebirge foothills.
Registration is exclusively online via the platform zeitgemaess.info. ATS Kulmbach will publish the exact course map, competition rules, and start times shortly before the event on the official festival website.

- Late afternoon — Award ceremony and finisher gifts

Getting there
By car via the A 9 (exit Bayreuth-Nord) and the B 85 to Trebgast — follow signs for "Badesee". From Trebgast train station (Bayreuth–Hof line), it's about 1.5 km to the lake. Ample parking is available on race day.

On-site
Transition area, aid stations, medical staff, and a snack bar at the lake. Spectators are welcome — free admission. Accommodation available in Trebgast, Kulmbach (10 km), or Bayreuth (20 km).
