Open-air theatre under the sky between Kulmbach and Bayreuth
The Theatersommer on the Naturbühne Trebgast is one of the most traditional open-air events in the state of Bavaria. The Naturbühne is located in the market town of Trebgast in the Kulmbach district, picturesquely nestled between the Upper Franconian cities of Kulmbach and Bayreuth. From May to September, the ensemble performs under the open sky – the natural backdrop becomes part of the production.
Under the season motto "Be Free!", the Naturbühne presents several in-house productions that cover the entire spectrum of theatre:
The schedule is complemented by a varied programme of guest performances in the fields of music, comedy, cabaret and magic. Artists such as the Keimzeit Akustik Quintett, Wolfgang Krebs or Sebastian Reich perform at the Naturbühne. Thus, the Theatersommer combines the tradition of folk theatre with top-class entertainment.
Together with other Upper Franconian stages, the Naturbühne Trebgast is part of the Freilichttheaterdreieck – an association that shapes the cultural landscape of the region. For theatre lovers from the entire Kulmbach district and beyond, the Theatersommer is a firm summer highlight under the starry sky.
The 2026 season is under the motto "Be Free!". The season opens with several premieres: "Die Feuerzangenbowle" (premiere May 21), "Casanova" (May 22), "The Jungle Book" (June 5), and "Biedermann und die Brandstifter" (June 12), all at 8:30 PM.

In addition, there is a programme of guest performances in music, comedy, cabaret and magic with guests such as the Keimzeit Akustik Quintett, Wolfgang Krebs and Sebastian Reich.
