One night, one city centre, dozens of artists
The Plön Culture Night is one of the fixed summer dates in the state of Schleswig-Holstein. Organised by the Plön am See e.V. City Marketing Association in cooperation with local retailers, businesses, and cultural stakeholders, it transforms the small residential town on the Großer Plöner See into an open cultural festival once a year. Plön, the district town of Plön and gateway to Holstein Switzerland, provides an ideal backdrop with its historic city centre and castle.
The concept works like an open festival: Artists perform simultaneously on the Market Square, in Lübecker Straße, at the Museum of the Plön District, in shops, cafés, and courtyards. The audience moves from stage to stage, discovering new artists, and returning to favourite spots. The programme covers a broad spectrum: music, dance, acrobatics, cabaret, comedy, readings, theatre, and magic — a cross-section of the regional cultural scene.
The Silent Disco on the market square is one of the defining images of the Culture Night: hundreds dance with headphones, each listening to their own frequency, appearing from the outside like a silent choreography. This blend of community experience and individual enjoyment has become the hallmark of the Plön Culture Night.
The performers are mainly artists from Plön and the surrounding area — choirs such as the Gemischter Chor and the Chormorane, the Plön Symphony Orchestra, the Improbande, the Madness Brothers, the Sonnenschein Children's Circus, the TSV Plön unicycle group, as well as musicians, actors, and comedians from the region. This rootedness in local cultural life is why the Plön Culture Night has been 'cult in Plön for years and is known far beyond the city limits'.
In 2026, the 20th Plön Culture Night will again feature its proven mix of open stages and participatory formats. From late afternoon until deep into the night, artists from Plön and the region will animate the city centre. The programme brings together families, young people, and culture enthusiasts.
