One night, one city centre, dozens of artists
The Plöner Kulturnacht is a staple of the summer calendar in Schleswig-Holstein. Organized by the City of Plön in collaboration with local retailers, businesses, and cultural figures, it transforms this small residential town on the Großer Plöner See into an open-air cultural festival once a year. With its historic town center and castle, Plön—the district capital and gateway to Holstein Switzerland—provides the perfect backdrop.
The concept works like an open festival: artists perform simultaneously on the market square, along Lübecker Straße, at the Museum des Kreises Plön, and inside various shops, cafés, and both local churches. The audience wanders from stage to stage, discovering new talent or returning to their favorites. The program covers a broad spectrum, including music, dance, acrobatics, cabaret, comedy, readings, and theater—a true cross-section of the regional cultural scene.
One of the most iconic images of the Kulturnacht is the Silent Disco on the market square: hundreds of people dancing with wireless headphones, each listening to their own frequency, creating a surreal, silent choreography from the outside. This blend of shared community experience and individual immersion has become the hallmark of the Plöner Kulturnacht.
Performers are primarily artists from Plön and the surrounding area, including choirs like the Gemischter Chor and the Chormorane, the Symphonisches Orchester Plön, the Improbande, the Madness Brothers, the Kinderzirkus Sonnenschein, as well as various regional musicians, bands, actors, and comedians. They are joined by national acts such as comedian Fee Brembeck or the CarlStein Projekt, featuring Axel Steinhagen (singer and guitarist of the punk band Mutabor) and New York pianist John Carlson. This deep connection to local cultural life is why the Plöner Kulturnacht has become a cult event in Plön and is well-known far beyond the city limits.
In 2026, the 24th Plöner Kulturnacht continues its successful tradition of open stages and interactive formats. From late afternoon until late at night, artists from Plön and the surrounding region will bring the city center to life. The program is designed to bring together families, young people, and culture enthusiasts alike.
