Fairy Tale Winter Landscape on the 3rd Advent

The Plöner Wintermärchen takes place annually on the third Advent weekend in Plön's town center and in the Alte Schlossgärtnerei — a historic gardener's ensemble at the foot of Plön Castle, which is transformed into a magically staged winter landscape during Advent. The Plöner Kindergärten actively participate in designing the scenes: fairy tale settings, created by the educators and children themselves, make the event more than just a Christmas market.

Family Program with Musical Flair

The program is consistently geared towards families with children:

• Fairy tale storytelling in small storytelling corners
• Live music for children on stage
• Magic school with hands-on activities
• Pretzel baking over an open fire
• Arts and crafts stalls with handmade Christmas items
• Regional specialties from Plön and Holstein Switzerland

Alte Schlossgärtnerei as a Venue

The Alte Schlossgärtnerei is a historic garden area on the slope of Plön Castle, with old greenhouses, paths, and flowerbeds. For the Wintermärchen, the buildings are decorated, illuminated with fairy lights, and adorned with fairy tale backdrops. The atmosphere is a counterpoint to the large city Christmas markets — smaller, more personal, consistently designed for children.

Plön — Town Between the Lakes

Plön is the district capital of the Plön district and is located in the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park — framed by the Großer Plöner See to the north and the Kleiner Plöner See to the south. With Plön Castle (seat of the former Imperial Naval Academy) and the nature trail around the lake, Plön is a classic excursion destination for families. The Wintermärchen complements the tourist season in Advent.
