Wine and hiking event along the Rotweinwanderweg between Dernau and Altenahr
The Weinfrühling Mittelahr is not a classic one-day wine festival, but a culinary trail spanning several weekends. From the last weekend in April to the last weekend in May, wine stands will be open every weekend and on public holidays along the Rotweinwanderweg as well as in the village centers of the four wine villages Dernau, Rech, Mayschoß, and Altenahr. Those who wish to experience the entire event can do so anew weekend after weekend.
The Rotweinwanderweg is one of Germany's most famous long-distance hiking trails. It runs for approximately 35 kilometers along the steep slopes of the Ahr river, passing the most important vineyards of the Mittelahr region. During the Weinfrühling, wine stands are set up at several viewpoints where vintners serve their spring wines. In between, there are food stations offering Flammkuchen, Winzervesper (vintner's snacks), and sweet specialties.
The event follows a simple principle: free admission, payment only for what is actually consumed. This makes the Weinfrühling a particularly accessible introduction to the world of Ahr wines, equally suitable for hikers, families, cyclists, and culinary travelers. Overnight accommodations in the Mittelahr villages can be easily combined with the program.
After the flood disaster of 2021, the Mittelahr valley has reinvented itself with great energy. The Weinfrühling symbolizes this new beginning and shows how closely viticulture, tourism, and village community are intertwined in the Mittelahr. The event is coordinated by Zukunft Mittelahr AöR and unites the tourism initiatives of all four participating villages.
In spring 2026, the event will once again be themed "Enjoyment on the Move." At the four wine locations, day-trippers from the Rhineland meet multi-day travelers exploring the valley on foot. The producers present their white wines and rosés as well as the first Spätburgunder wines ready for tasting.
The detailed program for each active day will be published by the organizer in spring 2026. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years.
