A Castle in Advent Light
The Kemenate Orlamünde is the remnant of a medieval hilltop castle, towering high above the Saale river. It is maintained by the Orlamünde Castle Association and used for events. Once a year, the historic area transforms into a small, atmospheric Christmas market on the Advent weekend.
Program with Character
Some unique program points contribute to the special charm of the market: the concert by the Musikgesellschaft Neusitz, Santa Claus for the children, and – as a nod to its medieval history – crossbow shooting, a participatory sports activity for adults and older children.
Orlamünde – Saale-Holzland District
Orlamünde is a small town in the Saale-Holzland district, at the confluence of the Saale and Orla rivers. The medieval townscape and the castle complex with the Kemenate shape the city's appearance. The Christmas market, although small, is one of the most atmospheric Advent markets in the Saale valley.
