Unique celebration for the 1150th anniversary — Saale-Holzland-Kreis
The 1150th Anniversary Großeutersdorf is a unique jubilee event: the small village of Großeutersdorf in the Saale-Holzland district celebrates its 1150th anniversary in 2026 — the first documented mention of the place dates back to the year 876. From May 29 to 31, 2026, the village center will transform into a grand festival stage with a historical program.
The program is designed for three days of celebration: Friday, May 29, a ceremonial commers in the evening with an opening by the mayor and community representatives, stage program, dance evening. Saturday, May 30, a grand parade through the village with historical elements, club stalls, catering stalls, regional direct marketers, and live music. Sunday, May 31, a festive church service in the morning, Frühschoppen (morning pint) with brass music, family program in the afternoon, and a cozy end to the festival in the evening.
The anniversary embraces the long history of the place — Großeutersdorf was first documented in 876, making it one of the oldest documented settlements in the southern Saale valley. Historical elements — traditional costumes, demonstrations of old crafts, lectures on the village's history — shape the program and make the festival a cultural reunion with the region's past.
The municipality of Großeutersdorf (around 250 inhabitants) belongs to the administrative community Südliches Saaletal in the Saale-Holzland district in the state of Thuringia. The small village is located in the picturesque southern Saale valley between Jena and Saalfeld — a region with characteristic Muschelkalk slopes, wine-growing tradition, and quiet villages on the Saale river.
The 1150th Anniversary 2026 is a unique event — the municipality of Großeutersdorf was first documented in 876, making the anniversary fall in 2026. Three days of celebration in the village center: ceremonial commers on Friday, parade on Saturday, festive church service and Frühschoppen on Sunday.
The highlight on Saturday is the grand parade through the village — featuring traditional costumes, club representations, direct marketers, and live music. Demonstrations of old crafts, lectures on the 1150-year history of the village, and thematic stage programs will accompany the festive days.
