About Burg in Flammen
Burg in Flammen — edition 2026
Burg in Flammen — August 22, 2026
On Saturday, August 22, 2026, the Kemenate Orlamünde will once again become the evening stage for an extraordinary spectacle. Pyrotechnics and choreographed lighting effects simulate the visual experience of a "burning" castle — of course, controlled and safe. On two dance floors, live and DJ music with different styles runs in parallel.
The event combines a light show, castle festival atmosphere, and an open-air party experience. A cocktail bar and street food stalls cater to guests throughout the evening.

The Kemenate Orlamünde — a historic backdrop
The Kemenate Orlamünde is a remnant of the medieval Orlamünde Castle, which was an important imperial castle in the Saale valley in the 11th and 12th centuries. The Kemenate — originally a heated residential tower for the castle lord's family — is one of the oldest surviving secular stone buildings in Thuringia. Today, the Kemenate is used as an event location: concerts, weddings, castle festivals — and for several years, the grand summer spectacle „Burg in Flammen“.
Pyrotechnics and fire spectacle
The spectacle that gives the event its name is the staging of the castle "in flames" — through pyrotechnics, controlled fire installations, and atmospheric lighting effects, the castle complex is illuminated in the dark as if it were burning. This visual staging — which naturally poses no real fire hazard — is unusually atmospheric and impressive. The spectacle is accompanied by continuous background music and choreographed lighting effects.
Two floors, different music
Unlike pure show events, „Burg in Flammen“ is explicitly designed as a party. Two dance floors with different music genres are set up on the castle grounds — typically a main stage with pop/rock/current charts and a second stage with more electronic music (House, Tech-House, Dance). Guests can switch between the floors and adapt the musical experience to their taste.
Cocktail bar and catering
A cocktail bar serves guests mixed drinks — a rather rare component at open-air events at castles. In addition, there are food stalls: street food, classic festival food, vegetarian options, sweets. This catering infrastructure allows guests to spend the entire evening without leaving the castle grounds.
Orlamünde and the Saale Valley
Orlamünde is a small town in the Saale-Holzland district in the southern Saale Valley — south of Jena and north of Saalfeld. The town is picturesquely located in a loop of the Saale river and is known regionally for its castle ruins, the historic town church, and the Saale Valley panorama. With „Burg in Flammen“, Orlamünde has established a firm summer date in the East Thuringian event scene since 2024.
