Weekend of open artist studios throughout the city of Hagen
Planet Hagen is the most important studio weekend in the large city of southwestern Westphalia in the district-free city area of Hagen, in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. On Saturday, April 18, and Sunday, April 19, 2026 — each from 12 PM to 5 PM — 114 participating artists will open their studios, workshops, showrooms, and unusual exhibition spaces at around 35 locations spread across the entire city area.
Instead of a central exhibition venue, the entire city becomes a gallery. Visitors can navigate the city with an official booklet (available online or at participating locations) — and decide for themselves which artists and workshops they want to visit. The selection ranges from painting and sculpture to photography and printmaking, conceptual art, textile, and media art.
Isaiah Fachredin will be running continuous workshops in painting and photography. On Saturday, Marion Göbel and colleagues will present art with live saxophone accompaniment — a successful crossover between visual and musical art. AnaCathe will show the series „Erratum" at the AllerWeltHaus on both days. In addition, the Hagen Artists' Association will present the annual exhibition at the KAH studio on May 3 — a thematic extension of the studio weekend.
Hagen has a long artistic tradition — as early as the beginning of the 20th century, the city became a center of the avant-garde through the patron Karl Ernst Osthaus, with the Folkwang Museum as its nucleus. The Osthaus Museum and the Hohenhof still commemorate this today. Planet Hagen builds on this tradition and shows: Even over 100 years later, Hagen, with its dense independent scene, is a vibrant art location in South Westphalia.
Unlike a classic gallery visit, Planet Hagen is personal: those who enter a studio meet the artists directly — can talk to them, comment on works, and occasionally purchase them. This directness is the hallmark of the format and clearly distinguishes it from curated exhibitions.
Many studios have adapted for family visits — hands-on activities, small workshops, and children's programs accompany the weekend at various locations. Parents can come with children without prior registration.
The 2026 edition is spread across the entire city area — from the city center to the outskirts. With the booklet from the Cultural Office, targeted studio tours can be planned. Workshops and live performances complement the pure studio visits.
Booklet and flyer available via hagen.de and at the Cultural Office.
Admission to all studios is free. Works are occasionally available for purchase on-site — prices set by the artist.
By train: Hagen Central Station (ICE, IC, RE). City center by bus or tram of Hagener Straßenbahn. By car: A1/A45 exit Hagen. Within the city, use public transport or bicycle between studios — parking varies depending on the studio's location.

Download the official booklet (on hagen.de or at the Cultural Office) in advance — it contains the map of all 35 locations and allows for efficient tour planning. Form clusters: Visiting several studios in one district consecutively saves travel time.
