Classical Music Under the Open Sky on the Polish Border
For many years, the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra Eberswalde has traveled to Löcknitz in late summer to give an open-air concert in the medieval castle grounds. The concert has become a cultural highlight for the Uecker-Randow region, attracting music lovers from all over Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Brandenburg, and neighboring Poland.
The Orchestra and its Programs
The Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra Eberswalde is a professional symphony orchestra led by Urs-Michael Theus. In Löcknitz, they enjoy performing thematic programs: 2024 was themed "Animal Music" with soprano Teresa Hoerl, and 2025's program was titled "Musical Water Worlds." The programs often draw on themes fitting for the water-rich landscape of Vorpommern or the castle's atmosphere.
Atmosphere in the Castle Grounds
In front of the historic backdrop of the Bergfried (keep), an atmosphere is created that concertgoers remember far beyond the region. Chairs are set up before the castle, the sound carries through the walls, and with clear visibility, the view extends far into the Randow Valley. In case of bad weather, the concert traditionally moves to Löcknitz Church – as happened in 2024 when the weather forecast necessitated a relocation.
Club Culture and Ticketing
The event is organized by the Heimat- und Burgverein Löcknitz e.V. (Local History and Castle Association) in cooperation with the orchestra. Tickets are available via Reservix (reservix.de) and by phone from the orchestra (03334 25650). The concert is one of the rare classical highlights in this sparsely populated border region and underscores the ambitious cultural work of the castle association.
